I'm thrilled to share that my Sussex Landscape photograph has been Highly Commended in the Trees, Woods & Forests category of the International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY) 18 awards! It’s an incredible honour to have my work recognised in such a prestigious competition, which showcases some of the best nature and garden photography from around the world.
The image was captured at Eridge Rocks, a stunning sandstone formation set within mixed woodland in the High Weald. While walking through this Sussex Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve, I came across a fallen tree lying alongside another still standing above it. The way they were illuminated by the soft, diffused light created a beautifully atmospheric scene—one that felt both timeless and fleeting. The reserve itself is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to the unique plant communities that thrive on the rock formations, adding to the significance of this location.
For me, this photograph is a reminder of the delicate balance of nature—of resilience and impermanence, of life continuing even in the face of change. IGPOTY has long been a competition I’ve admired, so to see my work recognised alongside so many talented photographers is truly special.
A huge thank you to the judges and to everyone who has supported my photography journey. I hope this image encourages others to explore the beauty of Sussex’s landscapes and to take a closer look at the often-overlooked details that make our natural world so extraordinary.
